About

Palimpsest presents music that resists easy category — free jazz, experimental rock, folk and electronic work treated as a single continuous field rather than a set of separate genres. Its premise is that adventurous listening is a practice worth cultivating, and that audiences are not found but formed, one evening at a time. It keeps no fixed abode, moving spontaneously and nomadically in search of new refuge — between urban fabric and nature, it seeks out ever-changing spaces, conventional or not. Each room arrives with its own fabric — its history, its acoustics, the weight of what it was built for. The performer works over that surface rather than erasing it: instrument and sound take up the dynamic of the space and write a new language across it, an old layer still showing through the new. This is music of instruments and of the discipline behind them — extended technique, an ear trained over decades — where what can sound free is the fruit of practice, not its absence. For one night, the room is rewritten. We stage new work and stand behind the artists who make it, approaching each programme as a proposition about what music can be — and we build the connective tissue of a scene, setting local and regional performers in dialogue with musicians from abroad, so that a night in Bratislava becomes a point of contact in a wider international conversation.

Accessibility

Palimpsest is open to everyone. We care about access in every sense — physical, financial and social — and we welcome audiences and artists regardless of ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability or belief. Discrimination of any kind has no place at our events; if anything stands between you and the music, tell us and we will do what we can.

If you would like to be at a performance but can't afford it, please get in touch — in confidence — and we can arrange access in certain circumstances. Write to info@palimpsest.sk.
